Anthony Gambone Obituary

Anthony R. Gambone, Sr. of Worcester, passed away on Wednesday May 12, 2010. He was 76 years old. Born December 19, 1933 in Conshohocken, he was the son of the late Charles “Hap� and Philomeno “Mamie� (nee Bella) Gambone and the beloved husband of Audrey (nee Spina) Gambone with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. Along with his brothers Joe and Jack, he founded Gambone Brothers Construction Company in 1958. Over a career that spanned more than fifty years in residential, commercial and industrial land development, they established a reputation among the top echelon of Montgomery County developers. In 1983 Anthony rushed into a burning home to rescue a child and was honored by Governor Dick Thornburgh for his heroism. In 1995 Anthony and his brothers were named the Central Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Citizens of the Year for creating hundreds of jobs. He and his brothers supported the Montgomery Hospital Hospice and the American Heart Association, hosting annual charity events. He lived for his children and grandchildren, farm and business. He loved the art of making deals, golfing and the races. He is remembered by many as a passionate businessman, compassionate husband, father, grandfather and friend. In addition to his wife, Anthony is survived by his four children; Jeanne Gambone of King of Prussia, Linda Meixner and her husband Carl of Worcester, Anthony Gambone, Jr. and his wife Dina of Audubon and Michael Gambone and his wife Kirsten of Worcester, his nine grandchildren; Venessa, Christina, Jaime, Robert, Steven, Anthony III, Dominic, Gianna and Sofia, seven great grandchildren and his sisters Jane Hanson and Sandy Sheehan. He was preceded in death by his four brothers and three sisters. Relatives and friends are invited to Anthony’s Life Celebration service on Tuesday May 18, from 5 to 9 PM at Boyd-Horrox of East Norriton 200 West Germantown Pike 1-800-GIVNISH and on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:50 AM at Visitation B.V.M. on North Trooper Rd. Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM. Entombment will be in St. Patrick’s Mausoleum.
