Anthony Gattuso Obituary

Anthony (Tony) J. Gattuso, Jr., age 78, of Naples, Florida passed away on June 28, 2023 after a lengthy battle with heart and lung disease, at Naples Community Hospital.

A longtime resident of the Berkshires, Tony was born in North Adams, Massachusetts on May 29, 1945, to Anthony J. Gattuso, Sr., and Marie (Lefebvre) Gattuso. He leaves his loving wife, the former Marilyn Donovan, whom he married on December 16, 1967, spending 55 years of devoted marriage raising their family. He also leaves two sons, Marc D. Gattuso and his wife Meredith of East Moriches, NY, and Matthew A. Gattuso and his wife, Stephanie, of Southborough, MA. He leaves five grandchildren and one great-grandson in his legacy. A granddaughter, Serena M. Brennan, her husband, Robert (Bobby), and their son, Riley, of Fanwood, NJ; granddaughter, Hannah C. Gattuso, and her husband, Frank Passalacqua, of Nutley, NJ; and grandsons, Grant, Gavin, and Blake Gattuso of Southborough, MA. He was predeceased in death by his parents, his younger brother Gary, and his elder sister, Barbara Serre.

He was a devoted family man who was always so proud to share the many accomplishments, travels, and educational experiences of his grandchildren. When healthy, he would rarely miss an opportunity to attend his grandchildren's theater performances, athletic events, or other notable activities. Tony was a deeply religious man who attended daily Mass via Zoom at St. Agnes Parish, Dalton, MA and was a member of St. Agnes Parish in Naples, FL. He enjoyed traveling to his timeshare in Aruba, playing golf with his wife throughout the Berkshires and at their home course where they resided, Forest Glen Golf and Country Club in Naples, Florida. Most importantly, he enjoyed the company of family and friends telling 'short' stories.

Since 2009, Tony was a member of the Men's Golf Association at Forest Glen Golf and Country Club. For the past ten years, he was a driving force as an MGA Board Member, diligently serving as Statistician tracking handicaps, tournament scores, recognition, and results for nearly 600 members. He enjoyed many social activities, particularly the frequent Trivia Nights. He was an avid card player and loved a challenging game of cribbage with his family and friends.

Tony graduated from St. Joseph's High School in North Adams, MA in 1963, St. Joseph's College in Bennington, VT in 1966, and earned his Bachelor's Degree from North Adams State College. He spent his career in Purchasing starting at the former Sprague Electric Company, North Adams, continuing with 25 years of service at General Electric - Ordinance, Pittsfield, and ultimately retiring after 15 years with Kollmorgen Danaher, Northampton, MA.

He will be deeply missed by his loved ones and the many close friends with whom he made such personal relationships.

A service will be held on Saturday, August 12th at noon at St. Agnes in Dalton, MA.

Although I do not know you well, Marilyn, I want to extend my sympathy to you and your family. Tony was a good friend of my brother, Jack Brewer, and I met both of you through that friendship. I remember that he had Jack come to work for him at the business in Northampton. Yes, and I remember his wonderful personality and friendliness. You are in my prayers and I pray that you will find comfort in all of the condolences you are receiving, as all notes are so filled with love and concern for you all. May God give you the peace you need to get through this very sad time.

Marilyn- please know that you, Matthew, Mark and their families are in our thoughts and prayers. Our friendship goes back to our days at St. Joe. Lisa and I were so happy to reconnect with you both in Forest Glen. As Matthew said - there was nothing better than listening to one of Tony´s "short" stories. We have great memories of times together and know that we will be here for you always. Prayers for strength. May your memories bring you comfort.

Miss you so much, already, Dad and it´s only been 36 hours. You fought hard to the very end and no doubt have a fast pass through the pearly gates! You were an incredible father, husband, and human being. Love you! Matthew
