Anthony Goudelock Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilson Funeral Home - Newberry on Nov. 10, 2024.
Mr. Anthony Bernard Goudelock. was born October 8, 1962, to the late Mrs. Annie Laura (Gallman) Goudelock and the late Mr. Thomas Goudelock in Newberry, SC. Mr. Goudelock transitioned at Lexington Medical Center on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Anthony Bernard Goudelock was known to most by his middle name, Bernard, and affectionately known as 'Beet/B.' Bernard will forever be known as the most loved man in the world, especially by his family. Bernard outlived his Down syndrome prognosis by decades until death at the age of 62. Bernard's death brought sadness and sorrow to family, friends, and his community, but there was also joy in the victory of his long life, a life that was a true testament to the power of love, presence, and care.
When Bernard was born in 1962, the youngest child of 18 to Thomas and Annie Laura (Gallman) Goudelock, the average life expectancy of babies born with Down syndrome was 10 years old. Bernard was raised in a loving home surrounded constantly by his family. Bernard attended public school and even went to 'work' at Newberry Disability and Special Needs, where he assembled eating utensils together and other tasks from 1985 until he retired.
As a child, Bernard fell in love with wrestling and moving his love to rubber bands as he aged. Bernard would watch wrestling every Saturday, sitting down in front of the television at the exact time the wrestling match would come on despite not knowing how to tell time. Bernard got the opportunity to attend a live wrestling match with his mom as a young adult. The memories would forever be in his heart with the love of wrestling that expanded over many years.
At the age of 43, Bernard lost the love of his life, his mother. Despite sharing her love with 17 other children, Bernard was her entire heart. Her love for Bernard matriculated throughout the entire family, with each family sharing the same love for him from his siblings, nieces, nephews, and their children. Beet made everyone's heart 'beet' and was everyone's heart. Whether it was dropping off his favorite "hambughah" from Burger King or Summer's Restaurant to rubber bands of various colors or sizes, to the affectionate sharing of one of his amazing hugs to sharing a dance floor with him, Bernard was the life of any party and lit up every room.
By 2005, when his family experienced the devastating loss of the matriarch of the Goudelock family, his mother left this world, leaving her heart in the care of his siblings, assured they would continue the task of love. After nearly 20 years, we are all sad and will miss him dearly; the family will rejoice knowing the mighty reunion that took place on November 9th at 1:26 pm.
We will always and forever love you, our beloved brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Thank you for your unconditional love, unwavering care, and joy!
He was predeceased in death by four brothers, Augustus O. Goudelock, Thomas R. Goudelock, Jr., Zebbie D. Goudelock, and Charles Edward Goudelock, and one sister, Marlene Goudelock.
He leaves behind to cherish precious memories six brothers; James William Goudelock of West Palm Beach, Florida; Cal Goudelock of Rock Hill, SC; Albert Ray Goudelock of Madison, Georgia; Harold Goudelock, Curtis Goudelock, Michael Goudelock, all of Newberry, South Carolina, six sisters, Rev. Jones (Maurice) of Columbia, SC; Cheryl Goudelock-Hare, two sisters-in- law, nieces, nephews and extended families the Whitener, Carter and Small.
