Anthony Gricus passed away peacefully Saturday, December 27, 2025, in the Bluebird Retirement Community, at the age of 94. Born on May 26, 1931, in Hamtramck, Michigan, Tony was the son of Peter Gricus and Sophia (Justrzykasty) Gricus. Formerly of Chesterfield, Michigan, and most recently of London, Ohio.
Tony proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he earned a Purple Heart. His military service remained a source of deep pride throughout his life.
Following his service, Tony was employed for 42 ½ years at General Motors, where he was known for his strong work ethic. He was a longtime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the Polka Boosters Club of America, organizations that reflected both his patriotism and his love of music and dance.
He especially loved playing poker and telling stories at family gatherings.
Tony will be remembered most for his character, jokes and being a handy man who can fix anything.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Margaret; daughters Catherine (Walter) Lane and Laura (Rick) Hotchkiss; grandchildren Jeremy (Jaime) Lane, Chad (Jennifer) Lane, Dustin Lane, Garrett (Jeniree Jaen) Hotchkiss, Collin (Brittany) Hotchkiss and Chelsea (Shane) Whitacre; and great-grandchildren: Cooper, Cassidy, Liam, Olivia, Ava, Shiloh, Luca, and Aiden.
He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Sophia Gricus, son Douglas, brother John, twin sister Mary.
Military burial ceremony and entombment will be in Dayton National Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to join a celebration of life which will be held on January 16th at the Sovereign Village Clubhouse, 305 Patriot Cir. London, OH. 43140 from 1-3pm.
