Anthony Malloy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kelley & Spalding Funeral Home & Crematory on Dec. 27, 2025.
Anthony (Tony) Martin Malloy, 77, of Deerfield, IL passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on December 26, 2025.
Born February 4, 1948 to Peggy (Cleary) and Jack Malloy in Cleveland, OH, Tony was the first of four children. He grew up in the W. 140th and Puritas neighborhood of Cleveland and attended Ascension School and Cathedral Latin High School, Class of 1966. Thereafter, Tony studied at Cuyahoga Community College and later earned his bachelor's degree from Kent State University. Down the road, Tony earned a master's degree from Loyola University and years later, a counseling certificate from the College of Lake County.
Tony began his professional career in the Cleveland, OH area and transferred to Chicagoland in 1983 where he held roles in commercial office furniture sales out of the Merchandise Mart. But Tony's passion was helping others. So, years later he pivoted into organizational development and eventually to his proudest career, drug and alcohol counseling. The number of lives altered, and even saved, cannot be underestimated.
For Tony, hands down, family came first. "Proud" was a word most often associated with his kids and grandkids. Relationships were Tony's priority. He kept closely connected to many dear friends from his professional paths, high school and college years, and other personal endeavors. Tony lived a life of gratitude and shared it openly. You could always count on him for an old movie quote, a Notre Dame football story, some air drums, or simply a big inviting smile.
Tony was preceded in death by his brother Dan, d. 2019. He is survived by his daughter, Katie (Matt) Meyer of Northbrook, IL and son, Jack Malloy of Palatine, IL; grandsons Finn and Declan Meyer; siblings Jim (Mary) Malloy and Peg (Tom) Carlson; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; and many cousins from Ireland.
Thanks and heartfelt gratitude go out to the many healthcare providers who took such good care of Tony including the staff at Belmont Village, Buffalo Grove, IL.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 9 th from 3-7pm at Kelley and Spalding Funeral Home, 1787 Deerfield Road, Highland Park, IL 60035. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 10 th at 10:30am at Holy Cross Church, 724 Elder Lane, Deerfield, IL 60015. A private interment is planned.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in support of the Mind Matters program at NSSC: Give Today. Transform Tomorrow. | North Shore Senior Center (Powered by Donorbox). Under Designation, please select "Memory Care Programs."
Rest in Peace, Tony. May God hold you in the palm of His hand. Now go swing that golf club o'er the greens of Ireland up there.

As a couple, my wife & I are so very grateful for having Tony as a dear friend for so many years. A unique guy whose remarkable sense of humor was balanced by his ability to also be a friend you could count on if a more serious conversation was warranted. But funny, really funny. The only person to ever call me from 3 states away because a Chicago radio station was playing "Indian Lake" by the Cowsills & he wanted us to listen to it together. God bless you Tony and thanks for all the great memories (and the nicknames). With Love, "The Lug" & "Petunia" aka Bill & Kathy
