KINGSTON — Anthony Bruce Matus, 69, died peacefully after a long and active life.
Raised in Plymouth, Bruce moved to the Dan Flood Towers in Kingston, where he was the longest resident until his passing.
Bruce's father, Anthony Matus; mother, Rita (Shymansky) Matus Courtney; and stepfather, AC Courtney, preceded him in death.
Bruce graduated Wyoming Valley West High School and volunteered at the Department of Veteran's Affairs Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center, Plains Township, for several years. He was an active member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Church, Kingston, and served as a frequent lector at Mass.
Bruce is survived by his devoted brother and sister-in-law law, Justin and Sherri Matus, Dallas, Pa.; and his sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne and Ulf Ghosh, Florida. Bruce enjoyed being an uncle to three nieces: Natalie (Ghosh) Nolan, Perth, Australia; Alexandra Ghosh, Helena, Montana; and Courtney Matus Hergen, New Orleans.
The family would also like to thank the staff at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center for their care and compassion for Bruce. In addition, a special recognition goes to our cousin, Rob Kuschke, Harveys Lake, for his dedication to Bruce's needs.
Bruce's service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to The Wyoming Valley Children's Association, 1133 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, PA 18704, or wvcakids.org in honor of Bruce. This organization was an essential resource for Bruce in his formative years, providing him with excellent physical and speech therapy.

Cousin or "Uncle" Bruce as I knew him growing up, was always kind and funny with a ready smile to share. He continued to keep in touch over the years around Christmas time when he enjoyed our Christmas card. He will be dearly missed.
