Celebrating the Bright Journey of Anthony Shane McWhirter

July 15th, 1967 – February 17th, 2026

Anthony Shane McWhirter filled his days with classic rock riffs, Oakland Raiders scores, and the thrilling roar of NASCAR-always cheering loudest for Rusty Wallace. Even after Retinitis pigmentosa took his sight at 20, he kept day-dreaming and knowing his surroundings with confident ease.

Friends and family remember Anthony's optimistic spirit, honest words, and resilient heart. He showed that vision comes from within, proving that a setback never had to dull a lively mind or a love for music. Kyle would go see him and say "Boogedy, Boogedy, Boogedy" to greet him and make Tony smile.

Home gatherings often centered on playlists he could recite by heart and race updates he tracked by memory. Those joyful sounds and sports chats turned ordinary moments into celebrations that everyone still treasures. He was the best daddy he could be and grandaddy. We will miss him and love him forever knowing things will never be the same without him. He was the bestest of friends and a cool cousin. He was a rebel on a different level

Anthony is survived by his brothers Ricky McWhirter and Mark McWhirter; his daughter Cassie (Kyle) McWhirter; grandchildren Austin, Jaylyn, Allen, and Freyja; nephew Brian McWhirter; and niece Shana Wirt. He is preceded in passing by his grandparents Benton and Rozelle Davidson and William and Mary Edith McWhirter, his father William "Bill" McWhirter, and his mother Edith McWhirter.

We celebrate a life that proved blindness could never dim joy, honesty, or imagination. Anthony's music, race-day cheers, and unwavering hope live on each time his family and friends share a song or shout for a favorite team.
