Anthony Mugnolo

November 1, 1929 – February 27, 2026

By what name was he known to you – Anthony, Tony, Muggs

Born November 1, 1929, and son of Frank Mugnolo and Orsolina Autiero Mugnolo. Raised on the west side of Chicago, his dad died when he was seven years old. Three siblings and their spouses precede him in death. His older brothers, Gerald Mugnolo and wife Barbara Jean Davis Mugnolo. Brother Carmen Mugnolo, wife Angela (Sis) Infantino Mugnolo. Younger sister Grace Mugnolo LaBanco, husband Tony LaBanco.

By government order, he served two years (1951-1953) during the Korean War under the 5th Army Command in Korea. He was honorably discharged as a corporal in the Military Police (MP). Returning home, he married Domenica A. Lonigro (known to some as Mimi or Dee).

In December 1954, he was accepted to the Chicago Police Force. He served as a patrolman - at times in uniform, sometimes in plain clothes. He traveled Chicago streets and highways driving his one-man squad car. At times, he was visible at Sox Park, Cubs Park and the Chicago Stadium. Back in the day, the Task Force was in full swing and he was attached to a motorcycle group called "Ryan's Raiders" - night patrol city west side. Retiring from the CPD, he became a daily working confidant, companion, and side-kick to his son, Frank "Muggs," for another 30 years.

He was admired by his brother-in-law, Fred Lonigro, and loved by his four children and their spouses: Caring, attentive son Frank (Dawn Jordan Mugnolo), loving daughter Rosemarie Mugnolo Baldwin (Scott), adoring god-given twin daughters, Cynthia Mugnolo Metcalf (Phil) and Sandra Mugnolo Nicketta (Jim).

A proud grandfather of nine: Danielle Mugnolo DeChristopher (Tony), Michelle Mugnolo Mohovich (Dominic), Michael Baldwin (Danielle Patrick Baldwin), Nick Baldwin, Genna Nicketta Ohrn (Tim), Jimmy Nicketta and Anthony, Philip, and Frankie Metcalf. Elated great grandfather of seven: Domenico, Lucia, and Chiara DeChristopher, Alessandra Mohovich. Thomas and Charlotte Baldwin and Luciana Ohrn. His grandchildren and great grandchildren respectfully called him "Muggs" as he smiled.

Known to most as "Muggs" he will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and entire extended family members and friends. He was a one-of-a-kind personality. His wife and partner for 72 years can attest to the fact that he was unexplainable, unpredictable, but totally dependable and by all "unforgettable"!!

However, after a bout with health issues at 96 years of age, he became too tired to run around the block again. So with the love of family always at his side - front, back, left side, right side - he simply closed his eyes.

Thanks for the Memories,

Mrs. Muggs
