Anthony "Tony" Ernest Palumbo, 82, of
Huntington Beach, California, passed away peacefully at his home on September 11, 2025. He was a devoted family man, a proud veteran, and a lover of life's simple pleasures.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, on June 29, 1943, to Anthony Palumbo Sr. and Simone Melanzone, Tony was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School in 1961. His life was defined by a strong sense of duty and a quiet strength that inspired everyone who knew him.
Tony's legacy of service began with his more than six years in the Navy, during which he served in the Vietnam War. He was a trailblazer, becoming one of the first nuclear operators to serve on both aircraft carriers and submarines. He spoke with immense pride about his military career, and his stories were a testament to his dedication to his country.
After an honorable discharge, Tony channeled his discipline and intellect into a new career path. He earned a bachelor's degree from Cal State Fullerton and became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
In his personal time, Tony found joy in the simple, yet profound, aspects of life. He could often be found walking, tending to his garden, or meticulously working on his beloved Volvo. His greatest joy, however, was his family, friends, and the unconditional love of his animals and nature. He was an ever-present source of wisdom and support, and the lessons he shared will forever be held close by those he loved.
Tony is survived by his wife, Mariana Palumbo; his daughters, Carmen and Karen; his son-in-law, Michael Gutierrez; and his cherished grandsons, Ethan and Vincent. He also leaves behind a large and loving circle of family and friends, both blood-related and chosen, who meant the world to him. We will be forever grateful for his presence in our lives.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Fisher House Foundation, which provides comfort homes for military and veteran families , and to Great Danes and Friends, Inc., a large and giant breed senior canine rescue.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to the many individuals who enriched Tony's life and made his final days so memorable. He will be remembered for his unwavering spirit and his deep appreciation for the beauty of a simple life.
