Anthony Rizzo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc. - Sterling Heights on Apr. 15, 2025.
Anthony Rizzo passed away on April 14th, 2025, at the age of 82, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Tony, or Nino as he was known, was born on February 12th, 1943, as Antonino Rizzo in Capaci, Sicily, into a family of eight boys and one late sister. Tony's family began immigrating to the United States in the 1950s and Tony followed at age fourteen, eventually settling in Roseville. Prior to moving to the United States, Tony worked at a barber shop in Capaci. He carried his haircutting skills to America, cutting his children's hair until they were in their teens.
Tony initially had plans to become a barber but eventually opted for a career in construction. Throughout the years, Tony and his seven brothers remained close in their working relationships. He and his brother Sam Rizzo started Rizzo Brothers Trenching in the early 1960s, working with all his brothers throughout its operation. The business thrived in the late 1970s once it was moved to Shelby Township, culminating in multiple office buildings and properties on Rizzo Drive and around the greater Macomb County area. After Rizzo Brothers Trenching stopped trenching, he started Macomb Trenching with his nephew Rob Rizzo. In his later years, Tony worked with his brother Vince, building homes in Macomb, and with his daughter-in-law, Julie, managing his properties.
Tony was known for his extreme kindness and generosity and was immediately a friend to everyone he encountered. Everywhere Tony went, he would run into someone he knew. Tony was an avid watcher of soccer and golf, even coaching his kid's soccer teams for years.
Upon retiring from trenching, Tony enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family and friends in Caseville, and spending winters in Delray Beach, Florida. He also enjoyed the monthly get togethers to play cards with his brothers and sisters-in-law, which continue to this day.
Tony is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Rita (Spagnoletti), his children Rick (Julie) Rizzo, Jeff (Monica) Rizzo, and Pam Shorkey (Mike) who affectionally referred to him as "Goody," his grandchildren Abbigail, Brendan, Christopher, Jonathan, Carmela, and Audrina. He is also survived by his brothers Joe (Enza) Rizzo, Sam (the late Maria) Rizzo, Harry (the late Mary Ann) Rizzo, Guy (Fran) Rizzo, Ben (Nancy) Rizzo, Vince (Lia) Rizzo, and Sal (Pat) Rizzo.
Visitation Monday April 21st 3-9pm with a 7pm Rosary service followed by a Sharing of Memories service @ 7:30pm at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile Rd).
