Anthony Roe Obituary
Age 75, passed away Sat. April 8, 2023 following declining health. Born on Feb. 3, 1948 in Elmira, Anthony was the son of the late, Guy & Helen Davis Roe. In service to his country, Tony served in the U.S. Army from 1968 -1969, was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Tony's career followed his love of trains. He worked up through the ranks and retired as yardmaster for Norfolk & Southern Railroad. His many interests included walking his beloved dog "Mandy", following the NY Yankees, fishing, carpentry going to car shows with his Corvette, and time spent with his cherished family. Surviving are his children, Kimberly (Michael) Graham, Southport; and Anthony Roe, Elmira; grandchildren, Taylor Burns, Stephanie (Joshua) Resanovich, and Michael Burns; siblings, Timothy (Marge) Roe, Cayuta; Roxanne (Don) Mahon, MD; Anna (Billy) Byrd, NC; and Claude (Sheryl) Jarman; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tony was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Nisco Roe; brothers, Thomas D. and Lee W. Roe; and "Mandy", his canine companion of many years. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway St. Southport/Elmira on Thur. April 13, 2023 between the hours of 10 a.m. – 12 (noon). Funeral services will follow at 12:15 p.m. with a graveside service to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded Mr. Roe resting beside his wife, Virginia.

I met Tony back in 2011 through Billy Telech and his family. I knew right away that Tony was someone special.
Tony had a great sense of humor and was also very kind and thoughtful. He was also very competitive! What fun we had one summer in Elmira playing "team" miniature golf at Eldridge Park. Tony and I were on opposite teams. It's still up in the air who really won! What silly fun!
You gave it a good fight, Tony, when health issues started piling up. I will really miss you. My sincere condolences to all his family and friends.

Condolences to the Roe family and to Linda Johnson and family.
Tony spent many days at our house when we were growing up on Lackawanna Ave. It felt like he was part of our family. He ate many meals with us and was at most of our family gatherings as a child and adult.
When my mother was in the nursing home, he visited her 2-3 times a week and even snuck in pies to her many times.
Tony was like a brother to me and my siblings. Thank you, Tony, for being part of my life and my family's life for nearly 70 years. God bless.
