He passed away at his home on January 20, 2026 following declining health in the loving care of his family and Visiting Angels Caregiver services. He was born on July 17th,1932 in
Delhi, NY. Bob was the son of the late, Carl Russell and Elouise Grummons, and was the oldest brother of Frances Rohr (deceased Charles "Chuck"), Anna Mae Curren (Jack), Jane Russell and his late brother, Cecil Russell (Barb). Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy Reserves and the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant. After being honorably discharged, he became a member of the North Presbyterian Church in
Elmira, NY where he met, fell in love with and married his wife of nearly 69 years Barbara E. Hornbeck Russell. Bob and Barb had four children to whom he is survived by; Alan Russell, Jerry Russell, John (Diane) Russell and Becky (Guy) Rogers. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren; John Patrick Russell, Christopher Russell, Emma Rogers and Cayla (Trey) Kurtz, with one great granddaughter and another one on the way. He worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation for 30 Years, in the Cathode Ray Application Lab and Nuclear Detector Department. He took classes in technology through Westinghouse which allowed him to repair the picture tube televisions of not only his customers, but family and friends as well. Bob was known for being the type of person who would "give the shirt right off his back" to anyone. He would be in the middle of a project at home when he would get a phone call from a family member or neighbor asking for his help, leading him to putting off many home projects to help someone in need. He loved the outdoors almost as much as he loved his family. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing on his boat "Daisy Mae", camping (whether as a camp counselor or with his family), and growing his own Christmas trees in his backyard that he would cut down each year for his family to enjoy. He also enjoyed sports whether it be playing on a softball team, bowling with friends or watching baseball (NY Yankees) or football (Buffalo Bills). Bob was an active member in the same church he met his soulmate at. He wore many hats from Sunday school teacher, to building homes through Habitat for Humanity. Bob was known for giving back to the community, not only through Habitat for Humanity, but also as a Boy Scout leader for the same troop he was in as a child. He also served as a Town Councilman for the town of Ashland for many years. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all the lives he's touched by his kindness, compassion, and loving spirit. To honor his wishes, there will be a small family service with entombment at Woodlawn National Cemetery Columbarium in April with military honors. There will also be a Celebration of life for friends and family to follow. The family would like to thank the caregivers of Visiting Angels and Hospice for all the care, compassion and support they have given Bob and his family. Robert "Bob" Russell may have left this world, but his love and legacy will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew him.
