Doris Russell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Mar. 12, 2026.
Doris Laverne Russell, of Moore, Oklahoma, passed away on March 11, 2026, at the age of 84. She was born on February 25, 1942, in Stratford, Oklahoma, to Harvey Dowdle Dillon and Ada Dillon.

Doris graduated from Stratford High School in 1960. She had a love for music throughout her life, playing the piano for many years and the clarinet during her high school days. She also enjoyed quiet moments working crossword puzzles, completing jigsaw puzzles, and playing dominoes and Password.

A lifelong Christian, Doris was devoted to her faith. She faithfully watched Christian programming including CBN, TBN, and The 700 Club, and had a deep love for Southern Gospel music, especially the songs of The Happy Goodmans. She served as the Sunday School Secretary at Capitol Hill Assembly of God and was involved in nursing home ministries at First Assembly of God from 1972 to 1974.

Doris was known for her lively and social personality and for the warmth she shared with others. She spent 53 years as an Avon representative, building friendships throughout the community. She also worked for the Oklahoma State Department of Human Services in foster care, where she provided administrative support to case workers who conducted in-home visits, carefully typing and preparing their reports.

In her free time, Doris enjoyed dining out at favorite spots such as St. Anne's Cafeteria and Olive Garden, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sheila Flanagan and Terrie Careswell; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren, all of whom will continue to carry her love and legacy forward.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Dillon and Ada Dillon, and her brother James Carroll Dillon.

She will be remembered for her strong faith, kind heart, joyful spirit, and the love she shared with everyone around her. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved her.
