Hood Mortuary - Pagosa SpringsAnthony Gabriel Scarpa, known to all as Tony, passed away on January 27, 2026, at the age of 88, surrounded by his family.
Tony was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he grew up with a deep love for family, faith, and the game of baseball. A talented athlete, he played baseball in the Philadelphia Phillies organization—an achievement he remained quietly proud of throughout his life. He later served his country honorably in the United States Army, carrying that sense of duty and integrity with him long after his service ended.
Tony eventually made his home in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, where he and his beloved wife Marilyn built both a life and a business together. For many years, they owned and operated two gift stores in the River Center Building, becoming well known for their warmth, hard work, and genuine enjoyment of meeting and talking with people. Tony never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Tony’s greatest joy was his family. He was a man of deep faith who loved his church and community. He was also an enthusiastic sports fan, cheering on the New York Giants and the Denver Nuggets, often with spirited commentary.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvia and Anthony Scarpa, and his brothers, Leo and Mikey. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marilyn; his brother Nick, his sons, Anthony and Chris, his wife Jodi and his cherished grandson, Christopher (Teo), who brought him immense pride and joy.
A Rosary and Mass will be held at St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, on Monday, February 16, with the Rosary at 2:00 p.m. followed by Mass at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John Paul II Catholic Church. Tony will be remembered for his kindness, his stories, his unwavering love for his family, and the many lives he touched along the way.
