Antoinette Zitzmann Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 8, 2026.
Antoinette Marion Zitzmann passed away on January 6, 2026 in Farmington, Minnesota. She was 95 years old.

She was born Antoinette Marion Meyer in Tyler, Minnesota on February 16, 1930, to Frank and Margaret (Dressen) Meyer. During her early childhood the family moved to Clements, Minnesota to farm. The family also owned and operated the Clements Mercantile.

Antoinette, or Ann, as she was known, graduated from Springfield High School, with Honors, and went on to attend teacher training in Lamberton, Minnesota. At age 19 she began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Delhi, Minnesota. She was qualified to teach grades 1-8, and taught in rural schools for five years while residing in Redwoof Falls, Minnesota.

On August 16, 1954, Ann married John Zitzmann and had four children: Lynn, Jim, David, and Mark. She continued teaching in Morton, grades 1-4 for four years, and also worked as the bookkeeper for the Zitzmann Transfer Company for seven years. Ann continued to extend her education in the teaching field at Mankato State College by attending night and summer school classes. This qualified her to teach Title 2 Reading and Math programs. Ann also taught remedial reading at Sunnyside Elementary in Redwood Falls, and soon after was offered a position to teach a Title 2 Reading class at Lincoln High school, which she dearly loved, and taught summer school classes there as well.

After an 18-year teaching career the family moved to Farmington in 1975. In 1982, John and Ann moved to Rice. In 2005, after a divorce, Ann moved back to Redwood Falls where she resided for ten years, then returned to Farmington in 2015.

Ann loved life, She loved walking, and she loved walking fast. She loved singing, listening to music, playing cards, entertaining, and baking desserts. She loved watching her grandchildren play sports, and she was a big fan of the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings.

Ann had a deep devotion to God, and she conducted Bible Studies early on in her home in Redwood Falls. She was dedicated to daily prayer, the Mass, and the Rosary.

Antoinette will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her children Lynn, Jim (Renee), David (Diana), and Mark; grandchildren Jason and Jessica, Josh, Emily and Alex, Hailey, Mathew, Madison and Chandler, David and Kate; great-grandchildren Sadie and Silas, and Sloane.

In memory of Antoinette, it would fill her soul with much love for everyone to recite the Rosary together.
