Antonia DiStasio Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 13, 2025.
Antonia "Lucia" DiStasio, 91, of West Orange, N.J., passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
Lucia was born on February 22, 1934 in Alberona, Province of Foggia, Italy. There she was raised and met and married her husband of 67 years, Vincenzo DiStasio, on October 10, 1957. Together they immigrated to the United States in 1958 and settled in Orange, NJ, and started a family. Lucia worked as a seamstress for many years before they moved to West Orange in 1989.
Lucia was the matriarch of her family, and will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family dearly and took great pleasure in being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed nothing more than cooking for her family and delighted in seeing them all gathered around the table. In her free time, she enjoyed visiting with her friends and extended family, viewing Italian mass on television, and the occasional visit to Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA. In her earlier years, she also enjoyed family trips to the Jersey Shore.
Lucia is survived by her devoted husband Vincenzo DiStasio, her loving children Josephine Gencarelli and her husband Joseph Gencarelli, Dan DiStasio and his wife Debbie DiStasio, and Alessandro DiStasio and his wife Maria DiStasio. She is also survived by her brother Saverio Zipeto. She is survived by her cherished grandchildren as well, Deanna, Maria, Vincent, Dan, Vincent, and Anthony, as well as her great-grandchildren, Daniel, Rosalie, and Lucia.
Lucia was predeceased by her parents, Alessandro Zipeto and Leonarda Frazzano (in Zipeto), her brother Nicola Zipeto, and her sister Maria Zipeto (in Ricci).
Lucia was and remains a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. She will be remembered most for the unconditional love she had for her family.
Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Monday, March 17, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Avenue, in Caldwell, NJ.
