Antonio Santos, a cherished family man and respected member of the community, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, in Wildomar, California, at the age of 90. Born on September 24, 1935, in
El Centro, California, Antonio grew up with a spirit of adventure and a strong sense of duty, which would become the cornerstones of his life.
He bravely served his country as a member of the US Army from 1958 to 1960, a period of his life that instilled in him a profound respect for discipline and camaraderie. After his honorable discharge, Antonio embarked on a career as a truck driver in the aerospace industry, where he dedicated 27 years of service. His work was not just a job but a passion, as it combined his love for truck driving with the excitement of the burgeoning field of aerospace.
Antonio's interests extended beyond his professional life. He was an avid enthusiast of classic automobiles, with his prized possession being a beautifully maintained 1934 Ford. This love for hotrods was more than a hobby; it was a way for Antonio to connect with fellow enthusiasts and to pass down his knowledge to younger generations. His joy was palpable whenever he spoke of his treasured vehicle, and his eyes would light up with the recounting of each detail and story behind the wheel. He also loved horse races and almost became a jockey at Los Alamitos Racetrack.
Family was the cornerstone of Antonio's world. Antonio came from a family of Portuguese parents' immigrants over 100 years ago in 1922 to make a life in America for their future family. They traveled across country from the east coast to southern California for a new life and settled in El Centro and Artesia. Many of his family were born from this major decision from another country, his parents, Claudio Dos Santos and Marianna Borges Martins and his siblings, Adelino, Claudio, Lionel (Leo) and Mary. He was a loving father to his children, Synthia, Katherine, Elizabeth, Angela, Celeste and Lloyd Santos, and a doting grandfather to his seven grandchildren, Melanie, Rachael, Stephanie, Vanessa, Jennifer, Adrianne and Andres. Also, his 10 great grandchildren. His family will remember him as a man who was always present, offering a listening ear, a word of advice, or a comforting hug. His nieces and nephews, too, will recall his friendly nature and the genuine interest he took in their lives. He was married to the children's mother, Pamela V (Delk) Santos, who did all things traditional and a joy to the family, 1959~1977.
Antonio's faith was a guiding force throughout his life. His involvement with the Knights of Columbus was a testament to his faith-filled spirit, as he actively participated in their charitable works and community services. The organization provided a platform for Antonio to live out his values of compassion and service, and he was known among the members for his warmth and generosity.
Words like loving, friendly, and faith-filled are often used to describe Antonio, but they only scratch the surface of a life lived with such richness and depth. He was a beacon of positivity, always greeting friends and strangers alike with a warm smile and an open heart. His legacy is one of kindness, dedication, and an unshakeable commitment to his loved ones.
As we mourn the loss of Antonio Santos, we also celebrate a life beautifully lived. His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him, and his stories will be told with love and admiration for generations to come. Antonio's journey on this earth may have concluded, but the impact he made will resonate forever in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
