Antwain Bates Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Home - Alvarado on Jan. 20, 2026.
Antwain Demethris "Ghotti" Bates was born on May 12, 1979, to Tammye Bates and Paul Pollard (preceded in death). He spent part of his early childhood in Alvarado, Texas, before his mother relocated to San Diego, California. While in California, he attended Boones Elementary School and Lewis Junior High School. It was there that Antwain's life was further shaped and where his mother met and married Stephen Christopher, who played an important role in his upbringing.

Antwain later returned to Texas and graduated from Alvarado High School. A gifted and driven athlete, he played football and basketball, earning numerous awards for his talent and dedication. He achieved the most 3 points in Alvarado's basketball history. His athletic excellence earned him a full scholarship to Abilene Christian University, a testament to his hard work and commitment both on and off the field.

Antwain continued his education at Abilene Christian University and Weatherford College before completing his studies at McMurry University. Throughout his athletic career, he accumulated multiple championship rings across a variety of sports, reflecting his competitive spirit, teamwork, and love of the game. After college, he continued to play baseball with local teams, remaining active in the sports community he loved.

Antwain married Seneta and became the proud father of two daughters. Later in life, he married Meghan Runells and moved to Hobbs, New Mexico. While there, they joined El Shaddai Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Ruben and Lori Llamas. His church family and faith were very important to him.

Beyond athletics, Antwain had a passion for motorcycles and found great enjoyment riding with the Full Throttle Club. He lived life with intensity and purpose and was known for his determination, loyalty, and unmistakable presence.

Antwain is survived by his sons, Antwain Bates, Jr. and Kamron Bates; his daughters, Jamasa, Keviarlna, and Sanaya; his mother, Tammye Diane Bates; his grandmother, Mary Bates; his sisters, Chantel Laneshe and Lauren; his brothers, Mark Jr., James-Brandon, and Nick; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 6, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Home in Alvarado, Texas.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7, at 12:00 p.m. at The Change for Christ Ministries in Alvarado, Texas.
