April Hill Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Northern Star Mortuary - Kansas City on Feb. 20, 2026.
April Christine Hill, 70, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away at home on February 14, 2026, after a long battle with EGFR lung cancer. She was born June 25, 1955 in Kansas City, Kansas to Marion and Elizabeth Gray. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1973, then went on to marry Sterling Hill Jr. on October 16, 1982. April and Sterling met at Roswell Church of Christ in 1981 where she was a member until her death.

April was a renaissance woman who worked various jobs and had many talents. She homeschooled her children and grandchildren, helped organize the homeschool group the Wyandotte Explorers, taught sewing classes to the youth including fashion shows, ran a daycare out of her home, and was known for hosting Kwanzaa celebrations and various holidays at her home.

She loved to give, whether giving her time, food, love or advice, April lived a loving life of service to others. She was a phenomenal woman of God who cherished and cared for her family immensely and loved hosting family gatherings, making sure everyone had a homemade cake for their birthday, and was a beautiful example of what it means to have a selfless and giving spirit. She was an excellent teacher, seamstress, cook, baker, and fisher. She also loved the Kansas City Chiefs, the outdoors, crafts, camping, planting trees, and gardening.

In addition to her parents Marion and Elizabeth Gray, she was preceded in death by her sisters Marion Ross, Mildred and Denise Gray; and brothers Robert and David Gray.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Sterling Hill Jr., her daughter Andrea Hill and grandchildren Jayden and Christian Hill, her daughter Christine Hays and husband Roger, sister Wanda Hooks, and many friends and family who will miss her dearly.
