Archie Ray Curlings, Jr., 58, passed away peacefully at his home in Elizabeth City on Friday, October 17. He was born in Pasquotank County to Faye Curlings and the late Archie Ray Curlings, Sr.
A lifelong resident of Elizabeth City, Archie attended Northeastern High School and was known for his servant’s heart and dedication to his community. He volunteered with the original Elizabeth City Rescue Squad, coached for AYSO, refereed youth sports, and faithfully kept the scorebook for countless softball games. His love for helping others and supporting youth athletics left an enduring mark that will be remembered for generations.
Family was the heart of Archie’s life. He was deeply devoted to his children and granddaughters—rarely missing a soccer game, softball game, or dance recital. Whether cheering from the sidelines or sitting front row, his presence and encouragement were constants in their lives. He loved his family fiercely and supported them in everything they did.
Archie was preceded in death by his father, Archie Ray Curlings, Sr., he is survived by his mother, Faye Curlings; his son, Brian Curlings and wife, Katie Curlings; his daughter, Ashley Curlings; and his two beloved granddaughters, Emma Curlings and Gracie Curlings.
He is also survived by his sisters: Cindy Harris (Dana), Robin Stork (Chuck), and Wendy Sullivan (Jessie); his nieces and nephews and their spouses: Edman Harris (Stephanie Gillespie-Harris), Robert Harris, Daniel Harris (Steffani Black), Casey Stork (Crystal Stork), Zack Stork (Destiny Wille), DJ Sullivan (Savannah Sullivan), Hannah Sullivan, Nathaniel Sullivan, and Kaydence Sullivan; and by his great-nieces and great-nephews: Elizabeth Harris, Kyran Harris, Skyler Harris, Levi Harris, Danielle Harris, Georgia Stork, Charleigh Stork, Paxton Stork, Bentley Stork, Lincoln Sullivan, and Tatum Sullivan.
