Arielle Lauren Fernandez (age 40) was born on Sunday, January 13, 1985, and passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. She was surrounded by her loved ones and passed away peacefully.
Beloved daughter of Virginia Casas (née Marquez), beloved granddaughter of the late Flavia Marquez (née Rosales), and the late Virginio Peralta Marquez. Adored niece of the late Jesse R. Marquez (Marie), Carmen Marquez Gutierrez (Andres), and Jose Marquez. Life partner of Francisco Cortez, beloved mother of Damian Fernandez, Maximus Issac Cortez, and Nayeli Ava Cortez. Beloved sister of Maya Angeles Casas and Olivia Arielle Casas. Loving aunt, cousin, niece, and friend to many.
Arielle possessed immense creativity and talent. From an incredibly young age, she demonstrated a remarkable gift for music, effortlessly learning to play the piano by ear and mastering songs after hearing just a few notes. She also had a gift for crafting, creating stunning holiday wreaths, beautiful floral arrangements, and home décor that sold at craft fairs. Her playful spirit extended to dressing up in holiday and character costumes, delighting children and adults alike. A true adventurer at heart, Arielle embraced life with a free spirit, finding joy in traveling, scuba diving, skydiving, and exploring the world on her own terms. Her vibrant energy and zest for life left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, and was followed by a funeral mass on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Epiphany Catholic Church in Chicago. She was interred on Monday, July 28, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Evergreen Park, IL in a private ceremony.
