Arla M. (Tolson) Hollins was born on June 7, 1934, to John A. Tolson and Geraldine Buckner (Conway). Arla graduated from Des Moines East High School in August 1952. She was in the United States Air Force and honorably discharged in June 1955. Arla received a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal while serving in the Air Force. She retired from Delovan Manufacturing after 25 years.
Arla was joined in marriage to Fred L. Akers Sr. and from this union were blessed with Fred L. Akers Jr. Later she united in marriage with Randall E. Hollins.
At the time of her passing she was a member of King of Kings Church, with Dr. Pastor Jordan Rabon.
Arla enjoyed reading her bible, going to church, and being around people. She loved to walk, read the newspaper, and go window shopping. Arla was always ready to ride to get ice cream after church. She and Donna would sit in the car at the park and just talk for about 30 minutes.
Arla Hollins passed away on May 10, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Betty Murray, Jacqualine D. Williams; brother, James Tolson (Bell).
Those left to cherish her loving memory are her son, Fred L. Akers Jr. and wife Dawn Bruce-Akers; grandson, Darius L. Akers; half-sisters, Paula Morris, Johnetta Camp Bey; half brother Dr. John A. William of Columbus, GA; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
