Kinsley Mortuary, Inc. - MarysvilleArleen “Kay” Kyle Mengers, 84, of Marysville, Kansas, passed away on October 4, 2025, at Cambridge Place in Marysville.
A funeral service celebrating Kay’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 24, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery near Hanover.
Kay was born on July 8, 1941, in Marysville, the daughter of Lloyd and Janet (Hellman) Mengers. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1959 and later moved to Topeka, Kansas, where she worked at Ohse Meats for two years. She eventually settled in Lawrence, where she built a long and successful career at the University of Kansas, serving in the computer operations department for 36 years until her retirement.
Kay had a lifelong passion for softball. She was an exceptional player who competed on a women’s team for many years, forming lasting friendships and inspiring others with her love for the game. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and found joy in caring for her parakeets. Kay never missed sending a birthday card or making a phone call to those she cared about.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sharon Schwarz.
Survivors include her three nieces, Tami Vering, Tracy Studer, and Terri McCabe, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
