Arlene Pearce Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Armstrong Funeral Home - Mount Ayr on Jun. 24, 2024.
Arlene "Teen" Pearce, daughter of George Henry and Tanzy Florence (Scott) Thurman was born July 15, 1936, in Missouri.
Arlene was raised in a large family and lived her early years mostly in Missouri. Throughout the many seasons of her life, one theme was constant for Arlene: family. She came from a large, loving family with many siblings and continued the tradition of a loving family with her own children.
On March 7, 1955, Arlene was united in marriage to Jimmy Henry Pearce. They were together for 69 years and shared five beautiful children, 11 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and one great grandchild until Jim's death 10 days before Arlene's.
Living on a farm is a family business, and Arlene and her children worked to make the farm successful along with her husband. She milked cows, raised chickens, and calved lambs. She raised a big garden and canned much of what they grew, in the early years out of necessity, in later years, for fun.
Later in life, Arlene and her husband enjoyed flea marketing. They spent many weekends in Colony, MO, where they made many friends and, continuing the love of family, were able to include their own children and grandchildren in the fun of flea markets and camper life. Although they traveled over much of the United States and to Germany, the farm was, "the place to be!" The plan was made to turn the farm over to the next generation, so in 2013, they moved into Mount Ayr, seemly with few regrets.
Arlene passed away June 23, 2024, while a resident of the Mount Ayr Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, on June 13, 2024; parents; son Jimmy, and her siblings Bob Thurman, Peggy Gibson, Betty Hillyard, Butch Thurman and infant brother Charles Thurman.
Survivors include children Sally (Butch) Schweedler of Pattonsburg, MO, Keith (Beverly) Pearce of Murray, IA, David (Theresa) Pearce of Mount Ayr, Randy (Kitty) Pearce of Morgan City, LA; daughter-in-law Charlotte; 11 grandchildren Jeff Schweedler, Steven Schweedler, Paul Schweedler, Nicole Begley, Shondel Zollman, Brandon Pearce, Mike Pearce, Mark Pearce, Megan Pearce, Lee Pearce, Greg Pearce; several great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 4 siblings Bert Gilbert, Jean (Bud) Whitaker, Connie (Dean) Lawson, Pat Roe; in-laws Diana Thurman and Melvin Hillyard; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Arlene will be missed by her friends and family, but they draw comfort knowing that she is now with the love of her life whom, after 69 years, she was unable to live without:
"When two hearts become one, it cannot be undone... For this love will last an eternity and will not fade." -Charlene M. Martin
