Arlene Stewart Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, Corsicana on May 31, 2024.
Arlene Aldrich Stewart of Corsicana, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 30,
2024 in her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on June 28, 1942, to Edward and Phyllis Aldrich in West Roxbury, Massachusetts. Arlene grew up in the Boston area until her family relocated to St. Louis, Missouri in 1955. Arlene later graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1964 with a degree in Education and soon made Corsicana her permanent home.
Arlene taught school in Corsicana for more than 25 years, mostly at Bowie Elementary. She enjoyed running into her former students once they had grown up and was eager to hear of how their lives had developed. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing Bridge, sewing and needlepoint, reading and working in her flowerbeds.
Arlene was a member of the First Baptist Church of Corsicana, Kinsloe House, the Alpha Roe Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and Thalian Book Club, serving as President for all three organizations for a period of time. She was also a member of Delta Gamma Sorority while at SMU. She was a very organized leader and enjoyed staying connected in her community. One of her favorite ways to give back was delivering meals through Food for Fitness. She looked forward to visiting with the people she served as she had a true servant's heart.
Arlene is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ted Aldrich of Kansas City, Missouri. She is survived by her children Mark Stewart of Corsicana and Michelle Stewart Hatton and her husband Alan Hatton of Cataula, Georgia. Arlene is also survived by her three granddaughters, Emily, Kate and Kylie.
The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the nurses and staff at Bristol Hospice as well as her other caregiver Tonia Robinson. All who cared for her, did so with warmth and compassion.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation in hopes of someday finding a cure.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 am Thursday, June 6th, at First Baptist Church, Corsicana.

Sending my sincere condolences to Mark, the family, and all who loved Arlene. Although I grieve with you, I will also celebrate with you the ultimate healing and crystal clear memory she has now received as reward for a life so wonderfully well lived. My memories of her are as one of the "other moms" of my classmates...one who attended every school event, supported her family and her kids with love and passion, ruled with an iron fist, and loved pouring into her "other kids" and students. She will be greatly missed.
