Arline Toates Obituary
Arline was born on March 30, 1936 in South Bend, WA to the late Ernest and Gladys (nee Johnsen) East. She graduated from Jefferson High School and Portland State College, both in Portland, OR, and had a long career in teaching.
Arline enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, and friendly sports betting with her sister. She also loved flowers, gardening, and most of all being a grandma.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, and is survived by her daughter, Julie Brethauer, and sons, James Brethauer (Laurie), Scott Toates, and Greg Toates (Stephanie). Her grandchildren are Breanne Toates (Casey), Brandon Toates (Megan), Dustin Brethauer, Lucas Johnston, Noah Thomforde-Toates, and great grandchildren Colton Frances and Roman Johnston.
No service will be held at this time.

Arline, you were just a amazing teacher/person to all the students that you taught and helped. You were very well loved in our little community of Waldport. While working at the school and listening to you, my mom, Peggy Sims & many of the other teachers while we sat in the lunch room and laughed about everything. God bless you.

Your mother was someone who change my life as a teacher. She spent extra time with me and saw that I could do better and gave me a chance. I change my direction in her 6th grade class at Waldport elementary.

Arline, was a pen pal to my daughter Ashley Bright here in Waldport... after she moved away from Waldport, she always sent Ashley 20.00....I remember her as being more tough then me ..... wonderful lady..., I will remember her with a smile on my face....will miss you Miss Arline
