Armando Dizon Savet

Armando Dizon Savet passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025.
Born in Manila, Philippines on February 18, 1927, he was the "Manong" or oldest of 9 brothers and sisters. During WW2, he worked as an errand boy for the Japanese Government to support his family. After the war, he graduated from high school and learned practical business skills such as stenography, typing and bookkeeping. In 1952, jobs were scarce, so he joined the Philippine Navy and embarked on a 6-month tour to San Francisco. The purser learned of his administrative skills and was quickly put to work supporting the ship's management. When he arrived in San Francisco, he was recruited by the admiral to work at the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC. On Christmas Eve, 1953 he met his beloved wife Gloria in New York City, and they were engaged six months later. Armando commuted weekly to visit her in New York while working a full-time job and completing his college education. They were married on October 1, 1955, in St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Richmond Hill, New York. They were married for 67 years.
Armando received his bachelor's and master's in accounting and retired from the Department of Health and Human Services in 1997 as a Director of Budget after a long career in public service. His work touched so many including Head Start and programs with the Office of Aging. Armando also served on the Democracy Federal Credit Union (formerly HEW) board for over 40 years.
Armando stayed active all of his life with various interests including tennis, golf, swimming, exercising, watching golf (LPGA), playing the ukulele, vacations in Hawaii and dancing the tango and rhumba with his cherished wife.
He is survived by his three devoted daughters, Victoria (Chris), Christina, Suzanne (Holger), granddaughter Emily, and Wrigley his Shitzu.
