Loris… Armatha Hemingway, age 91, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2025. Armatha was born in Loris, a daughter of the late Leon David Hemingway and the late Beulah Hardee Hemingway. Armatha attended Horry County Schools and accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of The Cedar Branch Missionary Baptist Church until the year of 2016. She then moved her membership to The Father's Cup Overflow Ministries where she remained a member until her death. Armatha wore many hats in her lifetime; she was a dreamer/interpreter that shared many of her dreams and they would come to pass. She was one of the family's babysitter and disciplinarian for many of the family children. Armatha was the spokesperson for her siblings that stayed in the house with her. She had a way of knowing what they needed before they even knew what they needed. She would make the request on their behalf to the person that could provide the services. She would always ask the sister or brother if that was what they wanted or needed? They would reply, "Armatha said I needed it." Armatha was a little different from her siblings in the home. Most of the time she would sit quietly to herself acting as if she was in her own little world; until she would think about God's goodness and all that He had done for her! Then, she would break out in a loud out of tune song, a prayer, or just praise and worship of the Lord. Armatha didn't mind giving God the praise that He deserved no matter where she was, what was going on at the time, or who was around. She Loved God Out Loud and didn't care who knew it. Armatha had an out spoken personality and will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Alice Hemingway; four brothers, Elbert Hemingway, Joe David Hemingway, Ander Hemingway, and Lee Davis Hemingway; and two sisters, Angeline Hemingway and Carrrie Lee Hemingway. Survivors include three sisters, Aretha Briggs (George), Lilly Ella Hemingway, and Garnell Hemingway all of Loris; one brother, Garthell Hemingway of Loris; two sisters-in-law, Darleen Hemingway of Loris and Martha Hemingway of Greensboro, NC; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Loris Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 15, 2025 at Fathers Cup Overflow Ministries with Rev. Andy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedar Branch Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Please sign an online guestbook at www.goldfinchfuneralhome.com Goldfinch Funeral Home, Loris Chapel is serving the family.
