Vatora Hemingway

Loris, SC Ms. Vatora Shanise "Tora" Hemingway, 37, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2025 at McLeod Seacoast Hospital in Little River. Born November 13, 1987, in Loris, SC, she was the daughter of Wadell Hemingway and Vicki B. Hemingway. Tora's intelligence and kindness was a radiant gift, bringing light to the lives of those around her. Driven by a love for God and education, she pursued her Licensed Practical Nurse diploma from Marion County School of Practical Nursing. Shortly after receiving her diploma, she began her career as an LPN. Later shifting her focus to raising her children; becoming a dedicated and nurturing mother. She enthusiastically attended her children's ball games and extracurricular activities, finding her greatest joy spending time with them. In addition to her devotion as a mother, Tora took great pleasure in preparing generous meals for her family and watching them savor her Southern home-style dishes. She was also skilled in crafting and enjoyed listening to music, as well as capturing moments through photography. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her beloved children: Layla, Lafayette II, and Layden Parker. Her brother, Waderrick Hemingway, and his wife Cenda; Her companion, Lafayette Parker; and many extended family members and friends whose lives she touched. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Kingston Lake Association Building, 3410 Church Street, Loris, SC 29569 officiated by Rev. John Brown and Pastor Andy Anderson. Burial will follow at Cedar Branch Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening, October 1, 2025 from 5:00PM-7:00PM.
