Arne Roy Arbelius

Arne Roy Arbelius, 74, of Palmer, passed away Friday afternoon, March 31, 2023 at UP Health System Marquette.
Roy was born April 7, 1948 in Ishpeming to Aarne and Ruth (Peterson) Arbelius, and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1966. Following school, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and was decorated with both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He did not like to talk about his time in Vietnam, but the shrapnel in his body could still get him pulled out of line in airport security. Following his service to his country, he began his working career, retiring from Lindbergh's in the 1990's.
Roy was a longtime member of the Richmond Township Community Club, and also played in the horseshoe and pool leagues for many years. He was also an avid trapper, hunter and fisherman.
Roy loved spending time at his camp on Squaw Lake, which was his greatest love. He especially loved when his kids, grandkids and friends would come over to enjoy the chaos of cooking, swimming, pontooning, fishing, horseshoes, fireworks and bonfires. He also loved to travel to Jamaica in the last couple years, and winter in the Carolina's with one of his best buddies, Tikki in earlier years, and more recently with daughter and son-in-law for the past three winters. Roy was well known for his gardening skills. Numerous kids have raided Roy's garden, but he also more recently love sharing the flowers of his labors with many.
Roy loved having fun and being around other people. Although his health had impacted him in so many ways in the last couple years, he still giggled at the silliest things and liked to have beers with his company. He lived life to the fullest and was loved by many.
Surviving are his three daughters: Jodi Arbelius, Mitt (Chuck) Arbelius- Poole and Cari (Tracy Jalonen) Arbelius; grandchildren: Alissa Thomas, Jayde Croschere, Sierra Croschere, Misty (Caleb) Pollack, and Wyatt Arbelius; 8 great-grandchildren; and his best friend and 'dooby' brother, David (Jody) Arbelius.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Morgan Mercer; and his sister, Janice Arbelius.
A Celebration of Roy's life will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, April 7th at the Richmond Township Community Club. Veteran honors will take place at 5:00 PM at the club as well.
