Died: March 7, 2024 in Oglesby, IL
Arnold John Daley, 84, of Oglesby, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Holy Family Church, Oglesby with Rev. J.A. Small, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Vincent's Cemetery, LaSalle. Visitation will be held 4-7:00 PM Tuesday at the church with recital of the Rosary at 3:45 PM and an honor guard provided by the Knights of Columbus. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Prey-Mueller Funeral Home, Oglesby.
Mr. Daley was born December 14, 1939 in Spring Valley to Thomas J. and Mary (Berta) Daley. He graduated from Holy Family School in 1954 and from St. Bede Academy in 1958. Mr. Daley was a member of the National Guard. He was a life-long resident of Oglesby and was co-owner and later the owner of T.J. Daley's in Oglesby. Mr. Daley was a member of the Holy Family Church, Holy Family School school board, and was a 4th Degree Knight with the Oglesby and LaSalle Knights of Columbus. He met his soul mate, JoAnn Planker in 1956 and they were married October 29, 1960 at Holy Family Church, Oglesby. She passed away on March 22, 2018.
Mr. Daley enjoyed growing tomatoes, feeding the birds, giving treats to the neighborhood dogs, and going to his cabin in Wisconsin. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.
He is survived by his two sons, Daniel (Julie May) Daley of Oglesby and Ronald (Elizabeth) Daley of Oswego; seven grandchildren, Sam (Angela) Daley, Christine (Ryan Smith) Daley, Christopher (Melinda) Daley, Timothy (Marissa) Daley, John (Kristi) Daley, Katherine Daley, and Corinne (Nick) Harper; four great-grandchildren, Caroline, Michael, Charlotte, and Theo Daley; one brother, Gerald (Jean) Daley of Oglesby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sisters, Delphine in 1928, Mary Jean Vacca in 2000, and Madeline Van De Wyngaerde in 2022; his brothers, Thomas John in 1927, Daniel Edward in 1930, Donald Thomas in 2019; brothers-in-law, Spirit "Pete" Vacca in 2021 and Marshall John Van De Wyngaerde in 1967; and sister-in-law, Mary (Hegarty) Daley in 2009.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Holy Family Church or to Holy Family School.

So sorry to learn of Arnold's passing. He was a terrific mechanic and just one heck of a nice guy. We remember the times he helped my wife and I with our 1957 Chevy car issues as newlyweds. It always got done right and he sent us on our way with one of his great laughs and a smile. And that is the image we always carry of Arny, that smile. May God bless the family.
