Gregory Dean Campbell, 63, of Spring Valley, IL and New Orleans, LA, passed away at his home in Spring Valley on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, following a 10-month battle with cancer.
A visitation for Greg will be held on Tuesday, March 31, at the Barto Funeral Home in Spring Valley, from 4:00 PM until 5:30 PM, with a eulogy and prayer service beginning at 5:30 PM. Cremation will be accorded following the services.
Greg was born on January 13, 1963 in Dekalb, IL to Joel and Patricia (Cryer) Campbell. He married Tammy Hodge on September 21, 2007 in Amite, LA.
Greg spent 40 years working in agriculture, of which 20 plus years were spent in New Orleans exporting big ships. He most recently had been the manager of two grain elevators for Northern Partners for the last 4 years. He also had his real estate license in Louisiana. Greg also served as a 3rd Ward Alderman for the city of Spring Valley from 2021-25.
Greg was very proud of his sobriety. For 33 years, he was active in AA and has mentored many people. He once started a construction business in Louisiana in order to give many talented, recovering people a job.
Greg was a die-hard New Orleans Saints fan. Some of his favorite hobbies that he enjoyed were golf, water volleyball, and playing the leprechaun machines. He loved spending time with family, friends, and his grandkids.
Greg is survived by his wife, Tammy Campbell, of Spring Valley; daughters, Angela and Amanda Pecher of Spring Valley; son, Hunter Pecher of Spring Valley; sisters, Tammy Campbell Lemons of Cherry, Julia Campbell (Michael) Murphy of Houston, TX, and Lisa Campbell (Ken) Wiltse of Belvidere, IL; brothers, Andrew (Natalie) Campbell of Waynesboro, PA and Aaron (Keri) Campbell of Spring Valley; two grandchildren, Isaiah and Nelly; and 10 nieces and nephews and 5 great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joel; his mother, Patricia; and two pets, Charlie and Maddie.
