We live 3 houses from Eleanor & Burt, as they passed by our home each and every day holding tightly onto each other, heading to the North Bayfront to sit together on “Their Bench” they always had a smile and Hello especially Eleanor with her big friendly smile. It was such a joy to see the two of them enjoying each others company so much…….We always said “If everyone had a marriage like Eleanor & Burt there wouldn't be any divorces”
We miss seeing them together and think of her around 4:00 each day, I know she is still smiling down on us.

I remember moving to California from Texas after graduation from college in 1980. Eleanor invited me to several family dinners and outings when I did not know many people in Southern California. That is the kind of person she was, making me feel at home, even though I was just a kid of one of their longtime friends. Several times after leaving California and returning for vacation Burt and Eleanor always made time for me in Balboa, and Bishop. Eleanor was always the best hostess and always had a bubbly infectious disposition. The relationship Burt and Eleanor had has always been a fond memory for me to watch over the years. What a great lady.

Oh what happy memories. Especially when all of us went together to the Grand Canyon. Eleanor was a true hostess in her home. What fun having a delicious meal on the front deck. My love is reaching out to Burt and will be in touch.

Katie, reading your entry made me break down into tears. I know how very difficult this is for you, but I also know how strong of a woman you are - because of her - and you will continue to be through this. Please know that I am always here for you... All my love to you, your Mom, and your sisters.

Eleanor Sandiford is our best friend. We have 64 years of memories. We first met in 1947. She was dating Burt. Burt and I were at USC. We were at her home in Huntington Park, Montebello, Placentia, Balboa Island, Aspendell. We took golf lessons from Zell Eaton at Montebello High School. Had vacation at Oceanside, Palm Springs, Aspendell and New Orleans. We stayed with them every time we visited California. We only visited Avalon, Catalina Island twice in 1947 and 1991. Both times with Sandifords. We attended SPE meetings in Houston and Las Vegas. Eleanor made carrot soup and brought it to Dallas when Edie was terminal in 1993. Best soup we ever had.
We will miss her.

I have fond memories of seeing my parents' good friends Eleanor and Burt when we visited California from Texas, and was so impressed with Susan and Shirley. My favorite memory as a little kid was waking in the Sandiford home, and getting to have pie for breakfast - Eleanor explained that fruit was a good breakfast! I also remember being introduced to Monte Cristo sandwiches, and getting a huge stuffed Eeyore at Disney from Eleanor - Eleanor always made me feel special.

The relationship between a grandma and her grandchildren is unmatched. Mrs. Sandiford truly raised an amazing family. Mrs. Fischer, Katie, Alison, Emily...May you hold tight each special memory with Grandma/Mom. She passed amazing traits to each of you and you pass them to others. Much love and respect.
