Art Leroy Moyer, 75, of Fort Sumner, NM passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025 in Lubbock, TX. He was born May 12, 1950 in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska to the home of Loyal and Vaudie (Curry) Moyer. He was raised and attended school in Tucumcari, NM. He graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1968. He then attended NMSU for 2 years.

Art married the love of his life Janis Batson in 1971 in Tucumcari, NM. Together the two of them would move to Fort Sumner, to begin and raise their family.

Art was master mason and worked for Moyer Masonry until his retirement in 2008.

Art was a member of the Fort Sumner Baptist Church, the New Mexico Singing Churchman, as well the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Fort Sumner.

Art enjoyed wood working in his free time. He also loved singing hymns, and listening to Christian music. He loved his family, and being Papaw to his grandkids. Art was there at any activity or sporting event his grandkids were participating in.

Art is preceded in death by his parents Loyal and Vaudie Moyer, his in-laws Ferrell and Juanita Batson, one brother Dana Moyer, and one daughter Lori Moyer.

Art is survived by his wife of 54 years Janis Moyer of the home in Fort Sumner, one son Brent (Nicole) Moyer of Fort Sumner, a daughter-in-law Ruby Saiz of Fort Sumner, his grandkids Dax (Jazmin) Moyer of Las Vegas, NM, Kristin and Alexis Moyer both of Fort Sumner, great granddaughters Aubree and Alia Moyer of Las Vegas, NM. He is also survived by one brother Bryce (Iva) Moyer, one sister-in-law Brenda Moyer of Artesia, and one uncle Bill Curry of Amarillo, Texas, high school best friends Robert and Benita Velasco of El Paso, TX, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Viewing will be held Thursday, December 4, 2025 from 1 pm to 6 pm at Chavez Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Friday, December 5, 2025 at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Fort Sumner with Rev. Jim Peabody officiating. Interment will follow at the Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Nate Pieper, Marko Moyer, Matt Moyer, Jessie Casaus, Raul Vascano Jr, and Will Mataya. Honorary Pallbearers include Dax Moyer, Raul Vascano Sr, Aurelio Vigil, and Cecilio Chavez Jr.
