Mrs. Arthamese Harbour, 88, of Highland Hills, Ohio, went into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 8, 2025.
Arthamese "Shorty" Harbour was born on January 20, 1937, in Liberty, Mississippi to Sarah and Ernest Griffin. As a quick learner, Arthamese was allowed to skip first grade and was recruited to teach Sunday School. Her family later migrated to Cleveland, Ohio where she graduated from East Technical High School. At East Tech she was active in intermural basketball and softball. She remained an active sports fan all her life as she excelled in league bowling and fishing. Arthamese had a competitive spirit and loved to travel to Las Vegas and Atlantic City with her friends. She worked until age 87 in various roles that include: a server, line worker, and a housekeeper which proved that she was apt, hardworking, loyal, and dependable. Her greatest achievement was raising four children as a single mother.
Arthamese was married to William Fred Harbour (deceased) for seventeen years and had four children: Valeria, Zena, Quinzella, and William Frederick. The family resided in Cleveland, then moved to Highland Hills in 1968, where Arthamese was the consummate mother as she cooked, decorated, entertained, and raised her children in the fear of the Lord at Avon Avenue Baptist Church where Arthamese sang in the church choir, and later was active in the Georgia Millers Missionary Group.
Arthamese is survived by her brother O.T. Thompson and his wife Elvira, Her daughters Valeria Long and husband Edwin, Zena Brown and husband Anthony, Quinzella Holmes, and son William Frederick. Arthamese is also survived by four grandchildren Diana Harrison and husband Calvin, Toya Garner, Allan Brown, Jaron Long and wife Megan. She also has two great grandchildren, Ava Harrison and Braylon Harrison.
Arthamese loved the Psalms. The 23 and the 91st Psalms were her favorites.
Goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
