Obituary of Arthur J. "Jack" Bennett

Arthur J. "Jack" Bennett, 89, of Newburyport, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. He was the husband of the late Nola Alice (Jack) Bennett who passed away in February of this year.

Born and raised in Melrose, he was the son of the late Arthur Bennett and the late Elsie L (Young) Bennett.

When Jack was a young man, he met the love of his life, Nola. They married in 1956, and had such love and devotion for each other for 68 years. He enlisted in the National Guard shortly after starting a family with Nola.

In 1960 Jack and Nola built a family home in Woburn, where they raised 5 children and made lifelong friendships with their neighbors. During summer months, they spent time visiting the Perry's Camp on Great East Lake. They also enjoyed many camping trips to Lake Ossipee with the Jack and Quinn families.

There wasn't a summer without some backyard pool parties and weekend visits to the family cottage on Plum Island. Nola and Jack hosted many Christmas parties throughout the years surrounded by family and friends.

Jack was a talented master carpenter. He built homes throughout New England and many commercial properties that include stores known to many.

In 1986, Jack and Nola bought a home in Ft. Pierce Florida, where they enjoyed the sunshine during winters months. There, they forged many long-time friendships. They traveled to Alaska, Europe and some National Parks together.

They enjoyed the beach, boating and sitting poolside, playing bocce, and attending Hawaiian luaus. Jack always looked forward to visits from their children and grandchildren. In the 1990's, Jack and Nola rebuilt their cottage on Plum Island into a year-round home.

Jack enjoyed Camping with his family. He played golf with his sons here in Woburn, and with dear friends in Florida during winter months.

In addition to his parents and his wife Nola, Jack was predeceased by three sisters. Olive, Lillith, Marion and one brother Bobby.

Jack will be greatly missed by his 5 children and their spouses: John Bennett and wife Georgia of Ipswich, Tim Bennett and wife Katy of Michigan, Rob Bennett and wife Lynda of Billerica, Laurie Crawford and husband Jay of Woburn, and Lee-Ellen Olson and husband Wayne of Woburn. His twelve Grandchildren: Chantel, Stephanie, Tom, Jack, Marianne, Robbie, Justin, Craig, Jay, Jennie, Samantha, and Hillary and 18 great-grandchildren from ages 2 to 22.

Visiting hours will be at the Arthur P. Graham Funeral Home, 3 Arlington Rd., Woburn on Saturday, January 3 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
