Arthur (Barry) W. Campbell III, 70, of Black River, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on September 19th, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family and under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.

Born on August 8th, 1955, in Hudson, New York, he was the son of the late Arthur W. Campbell Jr. and Janet (Greene) Campbell. Arthur graduated from Ichabod Crane High School in 1973. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army beginning in 1974 as a Military Police Officer, including service in Vietnam, until his honorable discharge.

After his military service, Arthur resided in Texas, where he served as a dedicated police officer for many years. During his time there, he attended college at the University of Austin, where he earned his law degree. La He later returned to Northern New York and married the love of his life, Jennifer Gaines, on October 1, 1994. The couple made their home in Black River.

Arthur furthered his education by earning a master's degree in Communications, with distinction, from SUNY Potsdam. He accomplished this all while raising two sons, and working full time. In 2008, he founded Cellular Etc. in Carthage, an independent cellular retail business, which he proudly operated with his wife, Jennifer, until his retirement in September 2024.

Arthur was an active and committed member of his community. He was a proud member of the Wildwood Masonic Temple in Edwards, NY, and the Black River American Legion. He also served as a deacon at the Calcium Community Church, where he was deeply involved in faith-based and charitable activities. Arthur was passionate about philanthropy and was always willing to lend a helping hand, especially to those in need and to local school children. Him and his son, Morgan, would often volunteer to serve Sunday breakfast and fundraise for local causes with his Masonic brothers.

A gifted musician, Arthur enjoyed playing the bass and performed in bands throughout New York State. He instilled this passion into his two sons, to whom he used to take to record stores, music stores, and concerts all around the north country. He taught his sons, Arthur and Morgan, not only the importance of diligent practice on their instruments, but also the importance of maintaining and caring for them. Music was one of his greatest joys.

Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Jennifer C. Campbell; his children: Arthur W. Campbell IV of Carthage, NY, Morgan D. Campbell of Black River, NY, John and Alissa Campbell of South Carolina, and Jeremy Campbell of Arizona; his cherished grandchildren, Erin and Arriana; his sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Rich Schmidt of Virginia; his mother-in-law, Brenda K. Cook of Evans Mills, NY; his father-in-law and his wife, John and Darlene Gaines of Tennessee; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Laurie and Jerry Nohle of Adams, NY; his niece Hannah Goodwin of Charlotte, North Carolina; and his nephew Joshua Goodwin of Henderson, NY.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Bruce Funeral Home.
