Arthur E. Carlson

Arthur Edward Carlson, 80, of Rockford, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023. He was born in Rockford on January 26, 1943; married Janey L. Thornburg in 1980 in Machesney Park. He was a Class of 1961 Harlem High School graduate. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1963. Arthur owned Carlson Carpet Service for 20 years and worked in material handling as a lift truck technician for 17 years; he retired in 2000.
Arthur loved bow hunting and camping. He liked working with wood and building his log home. He was a member of VFW 5300 Hanover and Lifetime Member of the VVA Chapter 928, Elizabeth, IL and served on the Honor Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Janey Carlson; children, Todd Edward Carlson and Cari Lynn (Kelly) Johnson; grandchildren, Sammy T. (Tara) Lenz and Cory J. (Katie) Lenz; great-grandchildren, Lennox Maeve and Oliver Jason and Paisley Jean; sisters, Gloria (Tom) McMahon, Linda (Bill) Brantley, Carole Moore and Shawn Carlson; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son, Jason Carlson; parents, Edward and Dolly Carlson; and brother, Arden Carlson.
Celebration of Life will be from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the American Legion, 1011 South Alpine Road, Rockford, IL 61108.
