Lee Barrie Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory - Loves Park on Mar. 2, 2026.
Lee John Barrie, 75, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

Lee was born on April 17, 1950, in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, to Regina and Meddie Barrie. He was the second oldest of four children and graduated from West High School in 1968. On July 4, 1970, he married the love of his life, Francine "Fran" Barrie. They shared 55 wonderful years until her passing in December.

Family was the center of Lee's world. He cherished time with his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Papa." His twin grandchildren brought him endless joy, laughter, and pride. Lee never missed an opportunity to spend time with them - whether organizing sports cards with his grandson Zachary or encouraging his granddaughter Hayley in her postcard collection.

Lee worked for 41 dedicated years with the Rockford Post Office, serving as a mail carrier and later in Address Management. He was known for his exceptional attention to detail and love of facts. Organization was second nature to him, and he took great pride in carefully cataloging his extensive collections - often helping others do the same.

As a child, Lee developed a love for Tarzan movies. He and his sister Lynn would take the bus to see them whenever they could. That childhood fascination grew into a lifelong passion, resulting in an impressive collection of Tarzan and Edgar Rice Burroughs books and memorabilia. He regularly attended Tarzan conventions and enjoyed connecting with fellow enthusiasts.

Lee was also an avid stamp collector and active member of a local stamp club. A devoted Green Bay Packers fan, he rarely missed a game. He loved road trips with his family, traveling to most of the states across the country while his children were growing up.

Lee had a remarkable ability to make instant connections, striking up warm conversations wherever he went. His warmth, curiosity, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on all who knew him. To Lee, there were no strangers - only friends he hadn't yet met.

In recent years, Lee and Fran cherished their time visiting their son Brad in Henderson, Nevada. They enjoyed attending shows together, exploring the area, and especially appreciated the warmer winter weather - a welcome change from Illinois winters. Those visits created treasured memories for the entire family.

Lee is survived by his daughter, Krista Jardeen; his son, Bradley Barrie; his grandson, Zachary Jardeen; his granddaughter, Hayley Jardeen; his sister, Lynn (Dave) Peterson; his sisters-in-law, Anna (Larry) Bergquist and Pat Barrie; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Regina and Meddie Barrie; his beloved wife, Francine Barrie; his brothers, Vance Barrie and Bruce Barrie; and his granddaughter, Angel Jardeen.

Lee will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his devotion to family, his kindness, and the joy he brought to those around him.

A memorial visitation will be held on March 9th, 2026, at Honquest Funeral Home - Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Rd. Loves Park, IL, 61111, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
