James W. McCarty

James Walter McCarty, 82, of Rockford, IL passed away February 25, 2026 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born September 5, 1943 in Darby, PA; the son of Arthur and Dorothy (Stoops) McCarty. He graduated from Haverford High School class of 1961. Proudly served in the Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic from 1964-1966 and a lifelong career in Industrial Sales. He married Sharon A. Ule on July 21, 1971 in Philadelphia, PA.

Jim’s passion was being a loving husband, father and grandfather, raising 3 children and foster parents to 7 and 1 exchange student. Jim was a dedicated Christian believing in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He enjoyed doing home repairs, helping and caring for others; especially for family and friends. He loved to love people.

Survivors include children Mia (McCarty) Holiday (Edwin); Codi (McCarty) West (Michael); Joshua McCarty; Grandchildren, Taeya Holiday; Emani Holiday; Callum McCarty; Malcolm McCarty; Siblings; Dorothy Donovan; Pamela McCarty and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Edmund McCarty. All of these he loved and touched deeply. Jim was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and treasured his time with them.

Services will be held on Thursday, March 12th, 2026, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108. Visitation from 11:00 a.m. to time of service at 1:00 p.m.
