Dr. Arthur C. DeGraff Jr.

Dr. Arthur Christian DeGraff, Jr., age 96, of West Hartford, CT passed away October 3, 2025. Born in New York City June 18, 1929, he was the son of the late Dr. Arthur C. DeGraff, Sr and Dorothy Dodd DeGraff and was predeceased by his two brothers, Elliott and Eric DeGraff. Dr. DeGraff is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Sandra (Ketelhut) DeGraff; his son, Arthur C. "Turk" DeGraff, III and his wife Amy of West Hartford; his daughter, Betsy D. Sands and her husband Christopher of Winchester, MA; 6 grandchildren: Nolan Zoccali (Matthew), Katherine Davis (Joel), Matthew Rand (Amy), Matthew Sands (Emily), Jennifer Burns (Jared) and Katrina Sands (Christopher Gilbert); and 7 great-grandchildren.
Dr. DeGraff was a graduate of the Frederick Gunn School in Washington, CT, Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT and New York University School of Medicine in 1955. He served his internship and first year medical residency at Bellevue Hospital in NYC, second year residency at the Bronx V.A. Hospital in NYC, and fellowship in the Department of Medicine at Tulane University in New Orleans. He served in the U.S. Airforce at Lackland AFB Hospital in San Antonio, TX as Assistant Chief of the pulmonary section. He held the position of Assistant Professor of Medicine at Univ. of Texas, Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, TX.
Dr. DeGraff was an active staff member at Hartford Hospital, Hartford, CT for 50 years and Emeritus, 2017, and also spent a number of years as Medical Director of the Pulmonary Laboratory at Hartford Hospital. He was Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center School of Medicine, and had a private consultation practice in Pulmonary Disease for over 30 years. He was also an Investigator at Hartford Hospital Clinical Research Center.
He enjoyed his outdoor life with family and friends, spending time at their summer home in Newtown, CT and skiing at their winter home on Stratton Mountain in VT. He and his wife always enjoyed traveling thru out the United States as well as exploring countries such as China, South America, New Zealand and Europe.
