Arthur Joseph Doiron, Jr.

Arthur Joseph Doiron Jr., age 89, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at his home in East Walpole, Massachusetts, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Waltham, Massachusetts on May 12, 1936, he was the son of Arthur Joseph and Marguerite (LeBlanc) Doiron. Raised in Rockland, Massachusetts, Art attended Rockland High School where he played football, basketball and ran for the track team. After his graduation with the class of 1954, he enrolled at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, focusing on Business Administration.

Three years into college, Art proudly enlisted with the United States Army Reserve, ready to serve his country. He attended active-duty training at Fort Dix, New Jersey and then was transferred into the Reserves with a rank of Specialist Four. Upon his return from serving, Art found work as a salesman. He worked for multiple companies over the years selling a variety of products from water treatment chemicals to paper goods. While checking in on customers and meeting prospective clients, Art was known for stopping at numerous coffee shops along the East Coast to enjoy his signature cup of coffee and danish.

On a blind first date, Art and his unbeknownst soon to be wife Elvira danced the night away, felt they had known each other forever, and six months later, the pair were engaged. On October 17, 1964, Art married the love of his life, Elvira Anita Arcaro, in Saint Denis Church in the Islington neighborhood of Westwood, Massachusetts. The newlyweds made their married home first in an apartment in Islington and then in East Walpole, Massachusetts, moving in 1965 to begin raising a family. Sixty years later they could still be found dancing when the occasion presented itself.

Art thrived as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His marriage was a wonderful partnership, and he was a playful, involved and supportive dad and Papa, always encouraging his children and grandchildren to explore their interests and follow their own paths. He was proud of the home he created and was often found outside attending to the yard and gardens. On Sundays, he and his family attended Saint Mary's Church in East Walpole, raising his children in the Church, and extending his faith to his family.

In the early 1980's, Art changed career paths, joining Polaroid in Norwood, Massachusetts. With his famous gift for gab, this paved the way to Senior Customer Service Representative in the Cambridge office and later in the Bedford office, where he retired. Art loved the camaraderie that formed amongst his coworkers, joining the company bowling and golf leagues and looked forward to company parties and reunions. He was very talented in his role and received many accolades during his time at Polaroid until his retirement in 2001.

Art was a man of many interests which allowed him to make connections wherever he went and was known to “bump” into folks here and abroad. He was a regular around town, whether jogging through the neighborhood, visiting the library, or running errands. Art’s incredible sense of direction allowed him to suggest the best places to visit along any road trip. As a result, later in life, he earned the nickname "ArtQuest" as he was even more accurate with directions than MapQuest.

In his spare time, you might find him bird watching (aka scaring the squirrels off the feeder), following the weather, or living up to his title as The "Grill Master". He and his wife were also fortunate to take numerous trips after retirement. They traveled quite a bit, regionally, nationally, and internationally visiting Portugal, Italy, and France. An amateur photographer, he captured breathtaking landscapes of the Grand Canyon. He was always behind the lens, taking snapshots of everyone and everything, able to look back and cherish the memories made in the photos.

Art also shared his love for classic cars and airplanes with his children and grandchildren,taking them to numerous auto and air shows. His fascination with airplanes was inspired by his youth, having grown up so close to the South Weymouth Naval Air Station during World War II. Later in life, he won a trip to Hawaii through Polaroid which allowed them to visit Pearl Harbor, a solemn experience he would never forget.

Art also enjoyed all kinds of music, especially jazz and learned how to play the saxophone in his retirement. To relax, he was often in his rocking chair reading a good book from the library. Sharing a namesake with his very distant cousin, Paul Doiron. He read all of his novels.

Most important though, was the time that he spent with his family. "The Man, The Myth, The Legend", Art was easy to know and easy to love. He was a proud Papa, thrilled to help be a part of raising the next generation. He was a generous man, with his time, his energy, and his love, and he will be deeply missed.

Cherished grandfather of Joseph Azar of Shrewsbury, Natalie Doiron of Milton, and Enzo Doiron of Milton.

Brother of Claire Phillips and her late husband Jim of Carver, Patricia Beardsley of Plymouth, Robert Doiron and his late wife Carole of Plymouth, the late Gloria Burrill and her late husband Fred.

Also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Arthur's Life Celebration on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025, in Saint Mary's Church, 176 Washington Street, East Walpole, at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private.
