Arthur Geoffrion Obituary

Arthur "Artie" Geoffrion, 85, died peacefully on July 12, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on Dec. 6, 1935 to Alfredo Geoffrion Jr. and Melecia C de Baca in Las Vegas, N.M.
Artie is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert Geoffrion and Louis Geoffrion; sisters, Irene Aranda, Dolores Rael, Agnes Vigil; and twin sister Pita Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Irene S. Geoffrion of the family home; children, Geri Cassidy (Mark) of Las Vegas, N.M., Michael Geoffrion (Rita) of Angel Fire, N.M., Donna Vigil (Raul Jr.) of Taos, N.M., Jacque Geoffrion and Eileen Geoffrion (Rick) both of Las Vegas, N.M.; grandchildren, Jason (Audrey), Craig, Artie (Martinika), Gerald (Christina), Yvonne, Jennifer (Tony), Anthony (Emory), Carmelita (Chris), Therese (Jason), Crissy, Richard (Marissa) and Mariana; 18 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; brother and sisters, Alfred Geoffrion (Gloria) of Rio Rancho, N.M., Rosemary Duck (Jerry) of Santa Fe, N.M. and Juliette Ludi of Las Vegas, N.M.; brother and sister-in-law's, Waldron Romero, Grace Castellano (John), Jane Apodaca (Max), Cathy Collins (Ray), Louise Sandy, Lorraine Romero all of Las Vegas, N.M., Gilbert Romero (Hiilani) of Winchester, CA, Carmen Geoffrion of White Rock, N.M. and Jimmy Rael of Las Vegas, N.M.; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many many friends.
Artie started his career working at Taicherts Clothing Store in downtown Las Vegas. He then went to work for the Human Services Department as a case worker and then took a promotion to a Quality Control caseworker, which took him traveling all over the state. He retired after 25 years in state government as the Income Support Director for San Miguel County. He served for nine years in the National Guard.
After retiring, Artie was very active in the Las Vegas community. Artie spent many happy hours on the golf course with his numerous golf buddies. He traveled to play different courses and enjoyed playing in tournaments all over the state. He was instrumental in creating, organizing and implementing the Piedras Golf Tournament which he named after then Golf Pro Gene Torres. He was involved with the Men's Golf Association for over 30 years. He was an avid bowler and participated in bowling leagues two nights a week and in bowling tournaments throughout New Mexico. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and was a prior Exalted Ruler of the F.B.O.E He also participated in golfing and bowling events in the Senior Olympics for a number of years.
He was a devout Catholic and served in many ministries for the Immaculate Conception Parish. He was proud to be one of the first Lectors to serve in the church when this ministry was implemented in the 1970s and he continued to Lector until 2020, He also served taught CCD classes for many years and served on the Finance Committee, sang in a choir and would recite the Rosary services when asked.
Artie enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved listening to music and singing with anyone who would sing with him. His generosity was well known to all. Artie gave from his heart to anyone who needed and he had many favorite organizations to which he donated. He joked with everyone he knew and met and would strike up a conversation with complete strangers.
He was proud of all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He attended just about every event his grandchildren or great grandchildren participated in. He will be greatly missed and will be remembered for being the most amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and great-great grandfather. He was a mentor and confidant to many and a man of integrity, a man to look up to and admire. He was the rock of his family. We can never put pen to paper to describe the man he was, what he meant to so many of us and the depth of his love for his family and everyone he met.
Rosary will be recited on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at 6 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, N.M.
Funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 19, 2021 at 9 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant.
Burial of cremains will follow at St. Anthony's cemetery in Las Vegas, N.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude or Immaculate Conception Building Fund.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Jason Cassidy, Craig Cassidy, Artie Geoffrion, Gerald Ulibarri, Chris Nichols, Anthony Garcia and Richard Armijo.
