It is with a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Arthur Gershenbaum, 83, of Bloomfield, CT, who left us peacefully after a brief and courageous battle with ALS surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New York City on October 29, 1942, son of Nathan & Sophie (Feinman) Gershenbaum he graduated from City College of New York with a degree in Accounting.
Art is survived by his wife, Barbara of 58 Years, son Seth Kalkstein, Daughter-In-Law Denise and his beloved Grand Daughter, Madison.
Art spent over 50 Years with Northwestern Mutual Life in Bloomfield and then West Hartford helping businesses and families with their insurance needs and mentoring many advisors.
An avid UConn Huskies and NY Yankees fan, he got to witness several NCAA Championships and World Series wins. He was a 10-pin bowler for the longest time in NY and in CT and taught Seth how to bowl. He most enjoyed watching his Grand Daughter compete in her sporting endeavors.
Art will be remembered fondly by his numerous friends and watering establishments.
We also want to say a special thank you to his wonderful team of caregivers including Maya, Majesty, Ellen and MaryBeth along with the Doctors, Nurses and therapists with the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, CT. and the Veterans Hospital in West Haven, CT.
We also want to thank the countless numbers of Artie’s friends who came to visit him in the hospital and at home after his diagnosis and brought him great joy.
A Memorial Service will be held this Friday, February 20th at 11am at Weinstein Mortuary (640 Farmington Ave Hartford, CT 06105)
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Hospital for Special Care (New Britain, CT), ALS United Connecticut (Milford, CT) or Paralyzed Veterans of America (New England Office).
