Sonny was an "Uncle", a "Godfather", one of my dad's best friends. We grew up with the Hicks. Family gatherings, takeout pizza and spaghetti dinners from Swanky Frankie's, pool parties, party parties, Boat Club and trips to the lake... Us and the Hicks. My dad and Sonny built airplanes, and helicopters, (real ones), {that is a whole other story} dune buggies together and flew model airplanes. Vicki is our Godmother, we called Arthur and Kevin our "brother/cousins". I used to see Sonny all the time when I would go to lunch at Smitty's...our favorite BBQ place! When I lived in El Paso, Sonny's train route was right in front of my house. Literally. When he would pass in front of my house, he would blow the horn 3 blasts. He did that for years. Boat Club dances and Shriner dances, going dancing at Tom Bells, weddings, and at parties, Vicki and Sonny were always out on the floor cutting a rug. And you could always hear him and my dad, my Uncle Don, Uncle Sammy and Jerry laughing and telling stories and jokes. First liar didn't stand a chance in that group! They were the group to be with - the fun group!!! He was an interictal part of a good life that I was growing up. Responsible for many wonderful memories.
Sonny was a veteran, who honorably served his country, an engineer for the railroad, a good father, and a good husband, and he was my friend. I will miss him. But I know he is up there at the big Boat Club party, with my Uncle Don, my dad, Uncle Sammy and Jerry - just waiting on the rest of us to get there.
Sweet Vicki, I know your heart is broken, Artie and Kevin, I know y'all too. My heart and prayers go out to you, and I am with you in spirit. Sonny, I'll see you later. Tell my Dad I said hi.

Sonny was a great man. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, husband, and friend. It was our pleasure to know him for so many years. May he rest in peace. We love you all, from Sharon and Phil Azar, Jr.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Sonny . My sincere condolences, although that doesn´t express enough the heartache we feel for his family. The world lost a great man and neighbor a true friend a compassionate soul. Rest peacefully Sonny, you lived a true and love filled life.
