Arthur E. Houde, Jr., age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at his home in
Cape Coral, Florida, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 24, 1933, in
Elmont, New York, he was the son of the late Arthur E. Houde, Sr. and Marie Branigan.
Arthur is survived by his devoted wife, Susan Houde, with whom he shared 55½ wonderful years of marriage. He leaves behind his beloved children, Sheryl Ferraiolo (Louis) and Arthur E. Houde, III (Amanda); six cherished grandchildren, Dawn Ambroselli (Michael), Shannon Lehnert (Robert), Arthur E. Houde, IV (Lukasz), Austin Houde (Kathryn), Alexander Kiernan, and Danielle Miller (Jonathan); and six adored great-grandchildren: Christina Ambroselli, Joseph Oliveri (fiance Angelina Lombardi), Danae Oliveri, Maddex Miller, Peyton Miller, and Elle Houde. Arthur was immensely proud of his family and treasured his role as both grandfather and great grandfather.
Arthur earned his college degree in Criminal Justice before beginning a distinguished career with the Suffolk County Police Department in Long Island, New York, joining the department in January 1961. Through dedication, integrity, and exemplary service, he rose through the ranks from police officer to Inspector. After 31 years of commitment to public safety, he retired in January 1992.
In 2010, Arthur and Susan relocated from Wading River, New York, to Cape Coral, where they embraced their retirement years together. Arthur passed away following a brief illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, or Hope Hospice, causes that reflect Arthur's compassionate spirit.
He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to family, his honorable service, and the quiet strength and kindness that defined his life.
