Arthur Laib Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A Natural State Funeral Service & Crematory on Oct. 18, 2024.
Arthur Joseph Laib, III, age 76, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 13, 2024. He was born at Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco, CA, to Col. Arthur Joseph Laib, Jr and Yvette Reesink Laib. As the beloved son of an Army Officer, Art spent his childhood moving around the world, fueling his love of travel.
His passion for basketball led him to the University of Kentucky, where he played under the legendary coach Adolph Rupp and was part of the Southeastern Conference winning team from 1967-1970. He was also a member of the Kentucky Epsilon of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. His love for sports extended beyond basketball, as he enjoyed fishing, golf, and the great outdoors, and sharing that love with family and friends. He was an avid Kentucky Wildcat fan, no matter how the season ended. Art was also a devoted fan of Jimmy Buffet, finding joy in his music throughout his life.
Art had a long and successful career in sales right after college through 2009, where he was known for his dedication and hard work. After retiring in 2010, Art moved to Hot Springs Village to enjoy lake life, golf, his family, and the wonderful community. He was an active member of Balboa Baptist Church. Above all, he was a loving husband, a proud father of two, a bonus dad, and a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren.
Although his body has left us, Art's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends and the special memories we share. His larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Johnson Laib; his daughters Angela Laib Chappell (Rick) and Amanda Laib Cleghorn; his grandchildren Corey Lyons, Zachary Chappell, Wilson Cleghorn, and AJ Cleghorn; his bonus children Kenneth Froedge (Becky), James Allen Froedge, Leesa Froedge Thompson, and grandchildren Brittany Thompson Wood (Allen), Colin Thompson, Hannah Froedge, and Rachel Froedge along with dozens of friends he made throughout his lifetime.
Art's Celebration of Life will be at Balboa Baptist Church at 415 Ponce de Leon Dr., Hot Springs Village, AR on November 8, 2024. Visitation with the family will precede the service from 12pm- 1pm in the Library. Services will be led by Pastor Denny Wright from 1PM-2PM in the Sanctuary. A reception will follow immediately in the Pathfinder room.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Art may be made to Balboa Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.

My condolences to the family.
Art was indeed a that "Giant of a man" who led with his heart. Always the consummate gentlemen, he could start a conversation with a total stranger at the "drop of a hat" and have them laughing in no time. I will always remember our days on the road calling on customers throughout the US while Pete's and later at Brown Forman Art you truly were...the Big Guy.
With deep condolences

His SAE pledge class will miss our brother. Art is the smiling brother in the middle of the row below the top. He did not need to stand on the steps to be seen. Phi Alpha brotherChapter Eternal

Art was at the top of my list as a friend, employee, and co-worker during my time with E&J Gallo and Brown-Forman. He will be truly missed as one of the great ones in our generation. I can't think of one person who didn't think highly of Art in every way. Bill Akins
