Arthur (Bill) James Lawson, Sr., beloved son of the late John A. Lawson and Lucille Mitchner Britt, was born on May 8, 1948, in Cuthbert, Georgia, and passed away on February 25, 2025, in Hamilton, Ohio, at the age of 76.
Arthur was a proud graduate of Henderson High School, Class of 1966. Following his education, he served in the United States Air Force for six years, receiving an honorable discharge in 1972. After his military service, Arthur settled in Dayton, Ohio, where he built a long and successful career at AK Steel (formerly Armco), dedicating 35 years of hard work before retiring. Arthur was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan who enjoyed bowling, wrestling, grilling, music, traveling, playing cards, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. Lawson and Lucille Mitchner Britt; his stepmother, Jeanie Lawson; and his siblings, Calvin Lamar Britt, Kenneth Lawrence Britt, Alex Charles Britt, Sylvia Britt, and Michael Lawson.
Arthur is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda, and their three children: Tiffani, Jennifer, and Scott. He is also survived by his first wife, Margaret, and their two children, Arthur Jr. (Yolanda) and Stephanie; as well as his sons, Kevin Hill (Sandra Hill-mother) and Melvin Reeves (Ruby Reeves-mother). He was a devoted grandfather to Arthur III, Alexandra, Kameron, Kai, Melva, Courtney, Caitlyn, Melvin Jr., and Erick and a proud great-grandfather to Alondra. He is also survived by his siblings: Jack (Michelle) Britt, Junita Britt, Debra (Patrick) Telsford, Mary Porter, whose late husband, Roy Porter, preceded her in death; Bernice, Sharon, and Linda. Additionally, he leaves behind his mother-in-law, Minnie M. Johnson; sisters-in-law, Sheila Barrett, Valerie (Calvin Jr.) Thomas and Melissa Britt; former brother-in-law Rawleigh (Rosalind) Barrett Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, grand furbabies, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
During this time of sorrow, the family wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Mildred Quinn for her support and care. We also extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Kettering Medical Network for their professionalism and compassionate service. Furthermore, we deeply appreciate the countless expressions of love, kindness, and condolences from our friends and loved ones. Your support has been a source of great comfort to us during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at Newcomer Centerville Chapel (820 Miamisburg-Centerville Road, Dayton, OH 45459). Funeral service will begin at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at 2 pm at Dayton National Cemetery (4400 W. Third Street, Dayton, OH 45428).
