Arthur L. Malcolm, 83, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
Arthur was born on October 5, 1940, in Philippi, WV, a son of the late Woodrow and Lucille Corley Malcolm.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tula Bumgardner Malcolm, in August of 2021. They were married on October 20, 1962.
He is survived by his son Arthur L. Malcolm II and his wife Joy of Martinsburg, WV; daughter, Carrie J. Hanscom and her husband Thomas of Eldersburg, MD; five grandchildren, Kyle Malcolm and his wife Ashley, Ashley Joy Malcolm, Chad Malcolm, Sarah Jane Hanscom and Tyler Hanscom; three great-grandchildren, Ella Jean Malcolm, Gabriel Malcolm, and Laela Mae Tula Malcolm; siblings, Woodrow E. Malcolm II and his wife Carol of Mannington, Marsha Ann Malcolm of Charleston, WV and Mark J. Malcolm of Melbourne, FL; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Judith K. Ruskin and Karen Sue Malcolm.
Mr. Malcolm was a graduate of Philip Barbour High School. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran. He was a graduate of Salem University where he received his degree in Divinity. He retired as an agent for People's Life Insurance Company. He enjoyed volunteering for the VA Hospital and the United Hospital Center. He also was a volunteer at the Harrison County Senior Citizens, where he drove bus.
He preferred to keep himself busy and accomplished that with various past times. He was a cub scout leader and member of the RW Athletics and Band Boosters, as well as the WI Band Boosters. He was the President of the Lion's Club and the Underwriter's Association. He was a member of the Clarksburg Lodge No. 6 A.F. & A.M. Clarksburg, WV, and a Past Worthy Patron of Queen Esther Chapter 11 Order of Eastern Star of Clarksburg. He also served as pastor in Brownton, Mt. Vernon and Blacksville and after retirement, would return as a visiting pastor. He enjoyed taking travel bus tours with his Aunt B and Uncle Bill.
Arthur's favorite way to spend his free time was with his family, and especially his grandchildren. He was their number one fan and supported them in all their sporting endeavors. He enjoyed taking them fishing on his sparkling, blue boat. He liked to take them on trips, one of their favorites being the Cass Railroad. He also liked to spoil them with shopping sprees. His love of children extended beyond his family, and he would get joy from dressing up as Santa Clause for the local grade schools.
Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. with an Order of Eastern Star service conducted by the Queen Esther Chapter 11 Order of Eastern Star of Clarksburg at 7:30 p.m.. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Sherman Goodwin presiding. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife. Full military honors will be accorded. Clarksburg Lodge No. 6 A.F & A.M will meet at the funeral home for the purpose of attending graveside rites.
