Arthur Nixon Obituary Arthur Gabriel Nixon, 94, of Matawan, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly in his beloved
home of 92 years on Tuesday, August 20. He was a beloved father, grandfather, partner and a
friend to all. Artie was known for his kindness, humor, easy going nature, gentleness and
generosity - truly a good man.
Born in Bayonne, he moved to Matawan when he was 2, and enjoyed growing up on his parents
chicken farm, spending summers jumping off the Rt 34 bridge into Lake Lefferts, Saturday
nights at the movies with his life-long buddies, Mike and Stan.
He was a lifetime member of the Matawan First Aid Squad, where he held various titles and
offices, and was one of the founders of the Matawan First Aid Flea Market, spending many
Saturday mornings there. He served his country by serving four years in the US Air Force and
had careers with Howard Johnson, Coast Cigarettes, and Classic Tours.
His greatest joy in life was his daughters and grandchildren. Being a father was his most
defining role, and he took pride in always being there to offer guidance, love, and
encouragement. He was deeply involved in every aspect of their lives, creating a warm and
nurturing home. He lived a simple life, finding happiness in the little things, especially in the time
spent with his beloved family. Artie was the true definition of a family man.
Artie was a person who took immense pride in his yard. He and Norma spent countless hours
nurturing his flowers, meticulously cutting the lawn, painting their garden statues, and feeding
the birds and squirrels that visited daily. His yard was a reflection of his dedication and hard
work, creating a peaceful and beautiful space for all to enjoy. In his downtime, he enjoyed
watching a good Yankees game and could often be found playing games on his iPad.
He is survived by his loving companion, Norma Wehrle, his 3 daughters who adored him, and
his 3 son-in-laws: Susan and Thomas Blake, Point Pleasant; Debra and Frank Reinhold,
Matawan; Linda and Steve Nikolof, Howell. His beloved grandchildren- Stephanie, Jessica and
Joseph Reinhold, Nicholas and Justin Texidor, and Maggie and Andrew Blake. He is also
survived by his sister, Margaret Waterhouse, Barnaget, and his friend and ex-wife, Patricia
Hauser, Brick, several nieces and nephews, and special neighbors, the Lyden family. He was
predeceased by his parents Warren Arthur and Anna Nixon, his wife Dorothy Dombrowski
Nixon, his sister Marion Dowling, and his brother John Nixon.
